Audio Storytelling by Sireen Abayazid (@sireenabayazid)
To honor this special time of high summer, ask yourself, “What do you wear that carries sunlight within it?” Is it a linen shirt that has walked down so many beaches that sunsets have seeped into every thread; jewelry bearing the image of the sun itself; clothes so intertwined with the season that sunlight is synonymous with them? We let you decide, and these are some of the tales you told us about the clothes that mean something to you.

Christiane, Her dress
: “This dress was bought at a thrift shop when I was in 8th grade. I told myself that I wanted to save this dress for a picnic. Fast forward to 2025, I got to wear it for my 23rd birthday! My boyfriend took me out to a park, and we celebrated with some cheese, crackers, strawberries, and some other snacks. I didn’t feel as confident wearing this dress back then, but I knew I’d grow into it.”

Brissa & Santiago,
Her skirt & his shirt
Brissa : “This magical skirt does not have a story yet; it is currently being written. The skirt reminds me of the aurora borealis sky and sunlight all at the same time. It’s a manifestation skirt, because one day, I will see the same colors from this skirt in the sky.”

Abbey, Her dress
: “Summer means time to be creative and do what brings me joy. I made my dream beach dress to embody the moments when sunlight feels the warmest to me.”

Natalie, Her dress & bag
: “i always wanted to try my hand at embroidery and up-cycling clothes i find. i’m skilled in other textile arts such as sewing + crochet, so i wanted to create my first major embroidery project. i thrifted this dress, dyed it blue + hand-stitched the designs.”

Morgan,
Medha, & Nivi,

Her earrings, her knit top, & her skirt
Medha : “I knitted my top while staycationing with friends ton top of [their] rooftop. Finished it just in time for today! (It used to be a bag!)”

Nivi : “I treid to sew this skirt from fabric at Seattle Recreative. My grandma laughed at me because it sucked. She fixed it.
“The top is a dress I thrifted in Ballard for my [bachelorette party] in 2023. I got my necklace from my romcom penpal.”
